Buckeyes Finish Tied for Second at Marshall Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s golf team ended the first tournament of the season tied for second at the Marshall Invitational Tuesday. The Buckeyes had a final day score of 288 to finish with a 1-over 853 on the par 71, 6,523-yard Guyan Golf & Country Club in Huntington, W. Va. Virginia Tech carded a field-best 16-under 836 to win the team title and Xavier’s Korey Ward had a 9-under 204 to capture the individual trophy. Ohio State finished tied for second with host Marshall. Leading the way for Ohio State was sophomore Grant Weaver, who tallied a career-best, 54-hole score of 4-under 209 to finish seventh. He shot a 72 on the final day to go with scores of 68 and 69 shot Monday. Classmate Boo Timko also finished in the top 10, coming in tied for eighth with a 2-under 211. After a first-round score of 69, he followed with a pair of 71s to conclude the tournament. A trio of Buckeyes in senior Matt Turner and freshmen Tee-K Kelly and Max Rosenthal came in tied for 23rd with a 4-over 217. Freshman Michael Bernard carded a 6-over 219 to finish tied for 35th. Up next, the Buckeyes travel to Zionsville, Ind., for the Wolf Run Intercollegiate, Sept. 15-16. Marshall Invitational – Round 3 Team Standings
