Ohio State Finishes First at Wildcat Invitational; Takes Individual Title

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State men's golf team recorded its second win of the season Tuesday, carding a 38-over 890 at the Villanova Wildcat Invitational. Junior Matt Turner took home his first individual win as a Buckeye with 1-under 212 on the gusty par-71, 7,055-yard White Manor Country Club in Malvern, Pa.
Turner, who competed as an individual, went into the final round with a four-stroke lead after carding a 72 and 68 in the first and second rounds, respectively. The Dubai product had a 1-over 72 in the third round to secure victory and finish as the only golfer under par.
Also with a consistent performance, senior Dan Charen placed fifth with an 11-over 224. Charen improved after a 5-over 76 opening to score a 3-over 74 in each of the following rounds of play.
Senior Alex Redfield and freshman Boo Timko each tallied a 12-over 225 to finish tied for sixth. Redfield recovered from his 80 in the second round to record a 1-under 70 in the third. Timko had a consistent tournament with a 4-over 75 and 3-over 74 on day one and a 5-over 76 on day two.
Two more Buckeyes finished in the top 20 in freshman Grant Weaver and junior Jamie Sindelar. Weaver tied for 12th-place with a 13-over 226, while Sindelar tied for 16th-place after a 15-over 288 performance.
Up next, the Buckeyes host the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate April 14-15. The tournament, which Ohio State has hosted every year but one since 1969, will be held at home in on the Scarlet Course at the Ohio State University Golf Club in Columbus.
