Redfield, Weaver Lead Second-Place Buckeyes at the FAU Spring Break Championship

COLUMBUS, Ohio – With two top 5 individual finishes, the Ohio State men’s golf team wrapped up play at the Florida Atlantic Spring Break Championship in second place. The Buckeyes, one of two teams to finish under par, recorded a 4-under 848 at the North Course at the Fountains Country Club in Lake Worth, Fla.
Senior Alex Redfield and freshman Grant Weaver each placed in the top 5, finishing tied for fourth. Redfield had an even final round to earn a score of 3-under 210, while Weaver was 1-under on day three to also finish 3-under 210. The finish marks Redfield’s best individual finish since his win at the Marshall Invitational and Weaver’s top performance as a Buckeye.
Senior Dan Charen finished tied for 16th with an even 213. Charen rebounded after a 3-over opening round to record 2-under and 1-under scores in the second and third rounds, respectively. Freshman Boo Timko followed with a 3-over 216 total to tie for 20th. Timko had a consistent tournament, finishing 1-over after each round. Junior Matt Turner had an even third round, his best score of the tournament, to finish with a 10-over 223 for a 53rd-place tie.
Junior Jamie Sindelar, competing as an individual, tied for 20th after recording his best score of the tournament, a 3-under 68, in the third round. He finished with a 3-over 216 total. Redshirt freshman Logan Jones placed 80th with a 20-over 233, while junior Gary Quinn tied for 81st scoring a 21-over 234. Redshirt freshman Trey Sullivan finished 88th with a 58-over 271.
Overall, Florida State put up an impressive 23-under 829 to take the team title. Florida State also took the individual title with the performance of Brooks Koepka. Koepka tallied a 14-under 199 total, with an 8-under 63 third round.
Ohio State will travel next to Malvern, Pa. for the Villanova Wildcat Invitational, April 2-3. This will be the last tournament for the Buckeyes before they host the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate at home in Columbus, April 14-15.
