GREENSBORO, Ga. – Will Grimmer ignited for a 5-under 67 in the final round of the Linger Longer Invitational, matching his career best score set earlier this season during his medalist performance at the Bearcat Invitational (Sept. 26-27). Fellow underclassmen Jeg Coughlin III and Daniel Wetterich were Ohio State’s best overall performers, however, each grabbing a share of 19th place in the 84-player field.
The above three Buckeyes, plus a 1-under 71 from Caden Orewiler, combined for a team total of 283, Ohio State’s best of the competition. The Scarlet & Gray improved in each subsequent round, posting scores of 290-287-283 to finished T-6th. Ohio State bested three Top-50 opponents and most importantly topped No. 37 Michigan by 20 strokes.
Wetterich carded his third straight 71, wrapping up the competition at 3-under (213). It marks the third Top-25 for him in six events as a Buckeye. Coughlin III completed the highest finish of his freshman campaign, racking up 38 pars en route to his 213 (-3). The 38 pars ranked second among all players, complemented by a 3-under Par-3 aggregate ledger (tied for first in the tournament). This Buckeye duo topped four Top-100 players, including fifth-ranked Jimmy Stanger of Virginia.
