COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State’s already graduated tandem of quarterback J.T. Barrett and center Billy Price were today named finalists for the 2017 Senior CLASS Award® for their respective careers excelling both on and off the field. They are among 10 student-athletes chosen as finalists.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. Finalists were chosen by a selection committee. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately at www.seniorCLASSaward.com to help select the winner. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches’ votes to determine the winner, slated for early January.
Barrett, from Wichita Falls, Texas, is 33-6 as Ohio State’s starting quarterback and has set 34 school or Big Ten Conference records, including conference marks for touchdowns responsible for (133 and counting) and touchdown passes (97). He is the only three-time captain in school history. Barrett is also a finalist or semifinalist right now for:
- The Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award;
- The Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Year Award; and
- The Maxwell Award’s national player of the year (semifinalist).
Price, from Austintown, is a highly regarded Rimington Award candidate who is coming off a first-team All-America season in 2016. A four-year starter along the line, he is set to break the school consecutive starts record he shares with Luke Fickell at 50. Price earned his degree in business administration with a specialization in operations management. He is a two-time team captain.
