Sept. 13, 2011
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Freshman wide receiver Evan Spencer’s spectacular one-handed catch against Akron on Sept. 3 has been nominated for the 2011 Geico Play of the Year, sports marketing firm Intersport announced Monday.
Spencer’s 33-yard grab is up against three other plays from the first weekend of action: an interception from Iowa’s Shaun Prater, a kickoff return from West Virginia’s Tavon Austin and a touchdown run from Oklahoma’s Dominique Whaley.
Each week for nine weeks fans will vote on four incredible college football plays that have been nominated as the Play of the Year. Voting for week one opened today (Monday) and will continue through Sunday, Sept. 18 at 10:59 a.m. To watch and vote on the highlight plays (Spencer’s catch!), visit www.facebook.com/BestofCollegeFootball.
