COLUMBUS, Ohio - All-Big Ten Conference center and 26-game starter Corey Linsley is now a Green Bay Packer. Today (Saturday) the Youngstown native and Boardman High School graduate was selected in the fifth round by the Packers with the 151st overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft.
Linsley, 6-3 and 297 pounds, is the fifth Ohio State Buckeye to be selected in this draft and his selection gives the Ohio State football program 28 drafts with at least five players selected.
2014 Ohio State Draft Picks
1st Round - LB Ryan Shazier by Pittsburgh with 15th pick
1st Round - CB Bradley Roby by Denver with 31st pick
2nd Round - RB Carlos Hyde by San Francisco with 57th pick
2nd Round - OT Jack Mewhort by Indianapolis with 59th pick
5th Round - OC Corey Linsley by Green Bay with the 161st pick
Linsley's selection, along with Mewhort's, also gives Ohio State 11 offensive linemen selected in the last 10 NFL drafts and 41 offensive linemen selected, overall, since the NFL and old AFL combined drafts in 1967.
Linsley, Mewhort and two other offensive linemen who are seeking opportunities to continue their playing career in the NFL - tackle Andrew Norwell and guard Marcus Hall - were the foundation of record-setting offenses for Ohio State the past two years. Ohio State ranked fifth nationally in rushing this past season (308.6 yards per game) and shattered school records for points scored (637), touchdowns (87) and touchdown passes (38), plus scored the third-most rushing touchdowns in school history (45).
All four have graduated. Hall (African and African-American studies), Mewhort (consumer and family resource management) and Norwell (communications) graduated last weekend and Linsley graduated in December with his degree in economics.
