Roby selected 31st overall by the Denver Broncos

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State cornerback Bradley Roby was selected by the Denver Broncos Thursday evening in the first round (31st overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Roby is the second Buckeye to be drafted in the first round after linebacker Ryan Shazier was picked 15th overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier tonight. Roby also becomes the 11th player to be drafted in the first round under head coach Urban Meyer.

Roby is the first Buckeye defensive back to be drafted in the first round since Malcolm Jenkins in 2009. He is the eighth since 1997 and the 13th overall. He also is the 69th Buckeye overall to be drafted in the first round overall.

A two-time first-team All-Big Ten selection, Roby started in all 37 games he played in over his three-year playing career with the Buckeyes. He totaled eight interceptions, 36 PBUs and had 44 career passes defended. He ranks third in school history with 226 interception return yards and is tied for the school record (with seven others) with two career interception returns for TDs. A nose for the football, Roby scored a total of five touchdowns on defense and special teams during his career.

Roby, who ran a 4.39 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, burst on to the national scene as a sophomore in 2012, becoming the only defensive player in the nation in that season to score touchdowns three different ways: recovering a fumbled punt in the end zone vs. Miami; recovering a blocked punt in the end zone vs. Indiana and intercepting a pass for a touchdown vs. Nebraska. Roby led the nation in passes defended with 19 (17 pass break-ups, which tied the OSU single season record, and two interceptions) and 1.73 per game. For his efforts, he was named first team All-American ( and All-Big Ten (coaches & media) and also was a semifinalist for the Thorpe Award.

Last season Roby repeated as an All-Big Ten honoree and was named a third team All-American by Athlons after recording 69 tackles, 16 PBUs, three INTs - one a 63-yard return for a touchdown at Illinois - and two blocked punts, recovering one for a touchdown vs. Northwestern. His 120 interception return yards in 2013 were the fifth-highest single-season total in school history.
