Ohio State Overview: Nick Vannett is a fifth-year senior who is a game-experienced and talented tight end … physical, durable and a veteran of 40 games over the past three seasons, Vannett has started three times and is positioned to take over the No. 1 position this season after sharing duty as part of a dynamic and impressive tight end combo the past three years along with Jeff Heuerman, who’s now a member of the Denver Broncos … Vannett has 36 career catches for 423 yards and six touchdowns and he is coming off a season in which he established personal highs in catches (19), yards (220) and touchdowns (five) … a season of similar statistics could vault him into Ohio State’s all-time tight end Top 10 in catches and yards … he is currently ninth in career TDs by a tight end with six and is in reach of Jake Stoneburner’s school record of 13 … has 13 multi-catch games … is majoring in sports and industry and is on pace to graduate August 9, 2015.
2014 Season (Junior): Vannett played in all 15 games for the College Football Playoff national champions and was in on over 600 plays … he had a fine season statistically – topping all of his previous career totals – and was one of 10 Buckeyes with at least 10 receptions on the season with 19 for 220 yards and five touchdowns … scored a touchdown against Oregon in the national championship game and also scored one vs. Michigan … his score vs. the Ducks came late in the first quarter and gave Ohio State its first lead of the game … his TD opened the scoring in the Michigan game … he had his first multi-touchdown day with two vs. Rutgers … had a career-best four receptions vs. Kent.
2013 Season (Sophomore): Vannett played in 13 games and he lined up on offense for 289 plays plus had an additional 80 snaps on special teams … he had eight catches for 80 yards … caught his first collegiate touchdown pass against Purdue (8 yards) … he had two receptions in games vs. Florida A&M (27 yards), Purdue (21 yards) and vs. Clemson in the Discover Orange Bowl (22 yards).
2012 Season (Freshman): After red-shirting the 2011 season as a true freshman, Vannett earned considerable playing time at tight end during the Buckeyes’ 2012 undefeated season … he was awarded with his first varsity letter after playing in all 12 games … he was in the starting lineup twice: vs. Alabama-Birmingham and Nebraska … he ranked fifth on the team with nine receptions and 123 receiving yards … he averaged 13.7 yards per reception and had a long catch of 32 yards vs. Nebraska … had two catches vs. Miami, California and Illinois … he totaled 45 receiving yards vs. Illinois.
