Ohio State Overview: Evan Spencer is an experienced, two-year letter-winner for the Buckeyes ... he has played in 22 games the last two years, including all 12 games last season for the undefeated Buckeyes ... he had the third-most plays among all the receivers and tight ends last year with 611, a total that included 542 plays on offense ... he made two starts last year, vs. Nebraska and Illinois ... he enters his true junior season with 15 career receptions for 214 yards and one touchdown ... Spencer ranked fourth on the team in 2012 with 12 catches, good for 136 yards and a career-long gain of 44 yards vs. Miami ... he had personal bests of three receptions twice: vs. Miami in the season opener (for 54 yards) and vs. Penn State (33 yards) ... Spencer played in 10 games in 2011 as a true freshman ... his first catch as a Buckeye was a ridiculous, one-handed grab of a Braxton Miller pass for a 33-yard gain in the first game of the season vs. Akron ... the reception, inside of the 5 yard line, was considered for a national play of the week ... Spencer also had a 33-yard touchdown reception - in traffic and over the middle - vs. Michigan State for the Buckeyes' only score ... counting a 12-yard reception vs. Purdue, Spencer had three catches for 78 yards and the one touchdown on the season ... he averaged 26.0 yards per reception which led all Ohio State receivers.
More on Evan: Spencer is majoring in economics at Ohio State ... he scored 33 touchdowns as a junior (14) and senior (19) for coach Ton Monken's Vernon Hills' Cougars teams, helping them to a state quarterfinals appearance as a senior ... named all-Illinois as a senior ... he is the son of Gilda and Tim Spencer ... his father is the third-leading rusher in Ohio State history with 3,553 yards between 1979-82 ... Tim also scored 36 touchdowns, fourth-most in school history, and was a member of the Ohio State coaching staff between 1994-2003.
