Ohio State Overview: Rod Smith is a fifth-year senior who has more games played, carries, yards and rushing touchdowns than any back on the Ohio State roster ... a powerful and bruising running back, he enters his senior season having played in 33 games ... stats include 448 yards rushing off 83 carries with four touchdowns and a fine 5.4 yards per carry average ... he didn't lose a yard rushing until his 76th rushing attempt from scrimmage (a loss of five yards vs. Penn State last year), and the play remains his only attempt for lost yardage ... as a receiver, Smith has eight career receptions for 86 yards and one touchdown ... majoring in African-American studies.

2013 Season: Smith played in 10 games, carried the football 22 times and gained 117 yards ... he averaged 5.3 yards per carry and scored one touchdown (a four-yard rush in the first quarter vs. San Diego State) ... he gained 45 yards on three carries vs. Florida A&M, including a season-long 27-yard rush ... Smith also had a personal season best with four receptions for 16 yards ... was on the field for 128 total plays.

2012 Season: Smith played in all 12 games for the unbeaten Buckeyes in and was in on 75 offensive snaps from scrimmage ... he also contributed another 69 plays on special teams ... special team's contributions included team-leading totals for kickoff returns (13), yards (303) and average (23.3) ... most impressive rushing game came against Penn State, with four carries for 48 yards ... had 38 yards, including a 33-yard touchdown rush, vs. Nebraska and had six attempts and 40 yards against Indiana ... also scored a rushing touchdown vs. Alabama Birmingham ... his offensive statistics also included two receptions for 55 yards and feature a 51-yard touchdown catch against Illinois.

2011 Season: Smith played in 10 games as a red-shirt freshman and had carries in three of them ... he opened his collegiate career with an 18-carry, 74-yard game against Akron ... he scored his first collegiate touchdown that game from 2 yards out ... also had seven carries for 24 yards vs. Toledo and 4 for 18, respectively, vs. Colorado ... finished the year with 29 carries for 116 yards.

More on Rod: Smith carried the football 1,000 times during his high school career and set the SAC conference career rushing record with 6,625 yards with 66 touchdowns ... he was the player of the year as a senior for coach Sherwood Haydock at Paul Harding H.S. ... also was all-conference in basketball and ran on state runner-up 4x100 relay team ... younger brother, Jaylon, plays football for Notre Dame ... parents are Sophia and Roger Smith.
