Bob Mansfield is one of the academic encouragers who monitor the classroom progress of Ohio State student-athletes on a daily basis. An experienced teacher, coach and official, he works with Buckeye student-athletes to help them gain the most from their educational opportunities at OSU.
A native of Youngstown, Ohio, where he graduated from Ursuline High School, he earned a bachelor's degree in education from Youngstown State in 1968 and received master's degrees from YSU in both administration and guidance. Mansfield spent 30 years as an educator in the Youngstown school system, the last 12 as a principal. He served as football coach at South High School. After his retirement, he worked with Jim Tressel's YSU football program as an academic counselor, maintaining a similar role when Tressel came to Ohio State in 2001.
A basketball referee at the high school, college and professional levels, Mansfield worked eight Ohio state high school tournaments and is a member of the Curbstone Hall of Fame for officials.
A three-time national racquetball champion, Mansfield, a 1995 kidney transplant recipient, is a passionate advocate for organ donation. He and his wife Linda reside in Youngstown.
