2014 Season (Sophomore): Burger played in all 15 games for the College Football Playoff national champions ... was in the games for 217 plays with a career-high 19 plays in the win over Indiana ... had 17, 16 and 15 special team plays, respectively, vs. Wisconsin in the Big Ten championship game, vs. Alabama in the Sugar Bowl and vs. Oregon in the College Football Playoff national championship game.
2013 Season (Freshman): After red-shirting as a true freshman in 2012, Burger got into six games in 2013 and played 33 snaps on defense and another four on special teams ... when injuries sidelined a couple players, Burger started at linebacker in the game at Illinois.
More on Joe: Burger was a 2011 La Salle H.S. team captain and was named first-team Division I all-state by the Associated Press after recording 103 tackles with five sacks and an interception ... his work in the classroom, in the community and on the field led to his winning the 2012 "That's My Boy Award," presented by the National Football Foundation and the Southwest Ohio Football Coaches Association ... he played for coach Tom Grippa ...
