Back to Back Losses Avoided Since 2009
Since the end of the 2008-09 season, Ohio State has avoided back-to-back losses. Overall, Thad Matta is 49-17 in games following a loss. Ohio State has not lost consecutive games since dropping a 65-61 setback to Purdue in the 2009 Big Ten Tournament and a 74-72 overtime defeat to Sienna in the Buckeyes' 2009 NCAA tournament opening round game in Dayton.
Buckeyes 6-2 After Break Under Matta
Ohio State is 6-2 in games following the Christmas Holiday in eight previous seasons under Thad Matta. Ohio State is 5-1 in non-conference games and 1-1 in Big Ten contests. Ohio State has been ranked in six games and among the Top 10 in the last three and in four games overall, including the game vs. Chicago State Saturday.
Craft Among Cousy Candidates
Aaron Craft, a junior guard for the Buckeyes, is among the candidates for the 2013 Bob Cousy Award, presented annually to the top point guard in the country. The list of more than 80 nominations will be cut to 20 around Jan. 1, 2013. Ten finalists will be announced near Feb. 1 and a final five March 1. The winner will be announced at the 2013 Final Four weekend.
Ohio State In the Big Ten
The Buckeyes are No. 3 in scoring offense among Big Ten teams (77.5 ppg.) and scoring margin (+18.7). The Buckeyes are in the No. 1 spot in turnover margin (+4.9). Individually, Deshaun Thomas leads the conference in scoring with 20.0 points per game. Aaron Craft (4.8) and Shannon Scott (4.6) rate No. 3-T, in assists per game. Scott also is No. 2 in steals per game (2.5) and No. 1 in assist to turnover ratio (+5.7). Craft is No. 4 in the league (+3.0).

Shannon Scott: Scored career high 15 points vs. Kansas to go with six rebounds, which tied a career best ... Lenzelle Smith Jr.: Grabbed a pair of rebounds vs. Kansas to give him 250 for his career. Deshaun Thomas: Reached 400 career rebounds with 10 vs. UNC Asheville, added six boards vs. Kansas (415) ... three points shy of No. 39 Curtis Wilson (1,120) on the career scoring list. Amir Williams: Two points shy of 100 career points and with eight rebounds vs. Kansas reached of 100 (103).
The Chicago State Series
This will be the fourth all-time meeting between Ohio State and Chicago State, all in Columbus. The teams first met in 1990, a 112-54 win for the ninth-ranked Buckeyes. The Cougars returned to St. John Arena in 1991. Ohio State was ranked No. 4 in that game, a 116-44 victory. Both teams were unranked in the most recent contest in 2005, an 81-52 Ohio State win. Chicago State is a member of the Great West Conference. Others in the league include New Jersey Institute of Technology, Houston Baptist, Texas-Pan American and Utah Valley State. Ohio State is 5-0 vs. members of the Great West. The Buckeyes have single victories vs. Houston Baptist and Texas-Pan American in addition to the three wins vs. Chicago State. Thad Matta is 3-0 vs. the Great West against Houston Baptist, UTPA and Chicago State.
A Look at the Cougars
Chicago State is 3-11 on the season with wins vs. Concordia, Trinity Christian and Alabama State. The Cougars enter the game with the Buckeyes on a three-game losing streak. Jeremy Robinson is the team`s leading scorer with 10.4 points per game. Matt Ross averages 7.2 rebounds a game to lead the Cougars.
Seven Foes Among Top 20
In the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll, seven Ohio State opponents are among the Top 20 and six opponents are ranked in the Top 12. The Buckeyes are scheduled to play 11 games against teams currently ranked. No. 9 Kansas traveled to Columbus Dec. 22. The Buckeyes will face No. 5 Indiana, No. 2 Michigan, No. 12 Illinois and No. 29 Michigan State twice each during the 2013 Big Ten season. No. 11 Minnesota plays at Ohio State in the lone meeting against the Gophers. The Buckeyes fell to now-No. 1 Duke in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge Nov. 30 in Durham.
