COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State center Kaleb Wesson was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week by the conference office Monday.
The 6-foot-9-inch center averaged 17 points and four rebounds last week in games vs. Clemson and Wisconsin. He recorded a career-high 19 points in Ohio State’s 83-58 win in Madison last Saturday.
For the week, Wesson connected on 65 percent of his shots from the field (11-17) while making both 3-point attempts and hitting on 83 percent of his foul shots (10-12).
Wesson has started the last five games and is averaging 12.1 points a game on the year. He leads the Buckeye regulars in field goal percentage (30-50/.600) and is second in blocked shots with six.
Ohio State (6-3, 1-0) plays host to Michigan at 6:30 p.m. tonight at Value City Arena in an early-season Big Ten Conference matchup. The game will be televised by FS1.
