USBWA Places Craft on Preseason List
Aaron Craft is among 15 players selected (Nov. 5) to the preseason watch list for the Oscar Robertson Trophy, presented annually to the national player of the year by the United States Basketball Writers Association. Evan Turner (2010) was the last Buckeye to earn national player of the year honors. Jerry Lucas claimed the USBWA award twice (1961, 1962).

The Ohio University Series
The Buckeyes and Bobcats have not met since the 1994 preseason National Invitational Tournament at St. John Arena in Columbus. Ohio won that game 78-67 but trail Ohio State in the all-time series 17-4. Jeff Boals, currently an assistant coach on the Ohio State squad, played for the Bobcats when they last defeated the Buckeyes. Boals made 7 of 11 shots from the field (14 pts.) while grabbing eight rebounds. Ohio State is 15-2 in Columbus vs. the Bobcats. The only time both teams were ranked in the series was Dec. 13, 1969, an 82-80 victory for the Bobcats. OU was No. 19, the Buckeyes No. 16. Ohio State has been ranked four times in the series, the last three times at the No. 4 spot in wins during the 1971-72, 1979-80 and 1991-92 seasons.

A Look at the Bobcats
Ohio University opened the 2013-14 season last Saturday at home vs. Northern Iowa, a 75-64 OU victory. The Bobcats finished the 2012-13 season with an overall record of 24-10 and a Mid-American Conference record of 14-2. The Bobcats featured Ohio State transfer Walter Offutt last season. He was second on the squad in scoring with 12.1 points a game. He was a senior last year. Another player with Ohio State ties is current senior Nick Kellogg, son of Ohio State great Clark Kellogg. Nick scored 16 ponts vs. Northern Iowa to go with five rebounds. He averaged 8.0 points a game last year as a junior. The Bobcats also are without former head coach John Groce, an assisant for Thad Matta before taking over at OU in 2008-09. Groce, now in his second year at Illinois, led OU to the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2012. Ohio is currently coached by Jim Christian, now in his second year. He and Thad Matta were assistants together in 1994-95 at Miami University.

Ohio State vs. The MAC
Ohio State has faced a member of the Mid-American Conference 65 times previously. Ohio State has 52 wins vs. the MAC and has faced and won at least one game against 12 of the 13-teams that make up the MAC. The last time Ohio State faced a MAC member was Nov. 26, 2010 vs. Miami University. The Buckeyes won that game 66-45 in Columbus.
