Thomas Working on 500-Club Inclusion
Thirty Ohio State players have reached the 500-point mark in a single season at least once. Deshaun Thomas is on track to become the 14th player to do so multiple times. Thomas scored 619 points as a sophomore, the 17th best single-season scoring effort in Ohio State history. Thomas leads the Big Ten in scoring with 20 points per game for a total of 420 points this season. William Buford (2009-12), one of three Buckeyes to score 500+ three times, and Jared Sullinger (2011-12), who did it twice, were the last to record multiple 500-point seasons at Ohio State.
Craft makes Academic District Team
Aaron Craft, a junior on the Ohio State men's basketball team, was named to the 2013 Capitol One Academic All-District (5) First Team Jan. 31. Craft, a 2012 Capitol One First Team Academic All-American, advances to the 2013 national ballot after making the district squad this year. A nutrition (pre-med) major, Craft carries a 3.92 grade-point average. The defending 2012 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, Craft set the Ohio State career steals record this year. He enters the week with 211 career thefts.
Thomas makes Robertson List
The United States Basketball Writers Association announced the midseason watch list for the Oscar Robertson National Player of the Year Jan. 31. Ohio State junior Deshaun Thomas made the 12-member midseason list. after leading the Big Ten in scoring with 20.0 points per game. He has reached 20 or more points in six conference games this season, including a 25-point effort most recently vs. Wisconsin Jan. 29.
The Michigan Series
Overall, the Buckeyes are up 93-72 in the series following the Ohio State victory in Columbus Jan. 13 over the then-No. 2 ranked Wolverines (56-63). The Buckeyes have won eight of the last nine meetings in the series. The Buckeyes are 36-45 in Ann Arbor vs. the Wolverines and are 35-5 as a ranked team vs. Michigan. The Buckeyes were ranked No. 15 in the Associated Press poll earlier this season in the game at Ohio State. Ohio State has won 14 of the last 15 games as a ranked team in the series. When both teams are ranked, Ohio State is 7-3. Both teams have been ranked in the last four meetings and Ohio State has won three of those games. Deshaun Thomas leads Ohio State in the Michigan series with an average of 13.4 points a game. Lenzelle Smith Jr. is Ohio State's top rebounder with 7.3 boards a game in the series.
A Look at the Wolverines
Michigan and Ohio State enter the matchup tied for the No. 2 spot with Michigan State at 7-2 in the Big Ten regular-season standings. The Wolverines are 20-2 overall following the loss at Indiana last Saturday. Michigan opened the season on a 16-game win streak before falling to the Buckeyes in Columbus Jan. 13, 56-53. Columbus native Trey Burke leads Michigan with 18.2 points per game. He is one of four Wolverines in double figures offensively. Tim Hardaway Jr. (15.6 ppg.), Nik Stauskas (12.5 ppg.) and Glenn Robinson III (11.7 ppg.) are the others. Reserve Mitch McGary leads the team in rebounding with six boards a game.
