101 Years in Big Ten
Ohio State celebrates 101 years as a member of the Big Ten Conference in men's basketball in 2013. The Buckeyes finished in the No. 6 spot in the 1913 conference standings, the first season of league play. Over the 100 previous seasons, Ohio State has earned 20 Big Ten regular-season titles with 24 NCAA tournament appearances, one national championship (1960) and 10 trips to the Final Four. Eight former coaches and players are members of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame while nearly 50 student-athletes have been drafted by National Basketball Association teams, including 23 in the first round.
Ohio State In the Big Ten
The Buckeyes are No. 2 in scoring defense (57.5 ppg.) among Big Ten teams, No. 3 in scoring offense (78.2 ppg.) and scoring margin (+20.8). The Buckeyes are in the No. 1 spot in turnover margin (+4.8). Individually, Deshaun Thomas leads the conference in scoring with 19.8 points per game. He is No. 2 in made 3s per game (2.6). Aaron Craft (4.8) and Shannon Scott (4.6) rate No. 3 and No. 4, respectively in assists per game. Scott also is No. 2 in steals per game (2.3) and No. 1 in assist to turnover ratio (+5.0). Thad Matta, in 13 seasons as a head coach owns an overall record of 117-45 vs. league members, including a mark of 113-45 record while coaching the Buckeyes. Shannon Scott: Scored career high 15 points vs. Kansas to go with six rebounds, which tied a career best ... Lenzelle Smith Jr.: Grabbed a pair of rebounds vs. Kansas to give him 250 for his career (256). Deshaun Thomas: Reached 400 career rebounds with 10 vs. UNC Asheville, added eight boards vs. Chicago State (423) ... five points shy of No. 36 Jamal Brown (1,139) on the career scoring list. Amir Williams: Made first career start vs. Chicago State (12/29/12).
The Nebraska Series
The Big Ten opener vs. Nebraska marks the second season Ohio State and the Corn Huskers have met in Big Ten play. Overall, the Buckeyes are 6-2 in the series. Ohio State has won the last five meetings, including both last year in Nebraska's inaugural Big Ten season. The Buckeyes are 4-0 in Columbus vs. the Huskers. Ohio State won 71-40 at Value City Arena last year on Jan. 3, 2012. Ohio State is 3-0 as a ranked team in the series. The Buckeyes were ranked No. 6 in the Associated Press poll in both games last year. Deshaun Thomas leads Ohio State in the Nebraska series with an average of 15 points a game. He also is Ohio State's top rebounder with 5.0 boards a game in the series. In two games last year, Thomas connected on 12 of 18 shots from the field (.667) vs. the Huskers. Evan Ravenel averaged six points and 3.5 rebounds. He made 5 of 7 shots vs. the Huskers (.714).
A Look at the Huskers
Nebraska is under the direction of first year head coach Tim Miles, a University of Mary (1989) graduate. He entered the season with a career head coaching record of 283-220 in 17 seasons. Nebraska travels to Columbus with a record of 9-4 and winners in three of the last four games. Dylan Talley (13.9 ppg.) leads three Huskers averaging 13 points or more. He is followed by Brandon Ubel (13.2 ppg.) and Ray Gallegos (13.0 ppg.). Ubel is the team`s leading rebounder with 6.5 boards a game.

The Buckeyes have an all-time record of 147-233 (0-2 in 2012-13) vs. ranked opponents in the Associated Press Top 25. That includes a mark of 62-116 vs. Top 10 foes. Depth Helps Buckeyes to 10-2 Start
Ohio State's reserves have contributed 32 or more points five times and in four of the last seven games. In all of last season the Buckeye bench scored 30 or more points in a game just three times. This season, Ohio State reserves provide an average of 24.6 points a game, outscoring opponent reserves by just over 11 points a game. Against Chicago State Dec. 29, Ohio State reserves scored 39 points, the most since a 41-point effort by the Buckeye bench vs. North Carolina A&T Nov. 11, 2010.
Buckeyes a Tough Out at Home
In the nine seasons Thad Matta has coached the Buckeyes, his teams are 77-3 in Columbus vs. non-conference opponents. In the 80 non-league games, Ohio State has averaged 89 points a game while giving up just under 63 (+26.1 ppg.). The largest margin of victory was 63 points vs. St. Francis (Pa.) Nov. 28, 2009 (110-47). The smallest were two-point wins vs. No. 21 LSU 78-76 Dec. 31, 2006 and vs. No. 16 Tennessee (68-66) Jan. 13, 2007. In the 76 wins, eight have been by fewer than 10 points. Ohio State has won 14 of its last 16 non-conference home games by 20 or more points.
