Thad Matta, Ohio State head coach
On Ohio State’s slow start to the game
“We practiced well leading into this game. We came out and just weren’t as sharp as we needed to be. We’re a team that needs to have constant energy.”
On overcoming early adversity
“Sometimes you have some games where things aren’t clicking the way you want them to. However, the difference between good teams and great teams is great teams figure it out and win.”
On seniors Aaron Craft and Lenzelle Smith Jr.
“Our experience helped us down the stretch. The plays our upperclassmen made were big-time plays. This is what I want Ohio State seniors to play like.”
Aaron Craft, senior guard
On Ohio State’s play early in the matchup
"You have to give Delaware some credit. They contested shots and took us out of our first look. We missed some layups early and that affected us a little bit. Sometimes you have to find a way to win when you are not able to put the ball in the bucket."
On eliminating slow starts
"That is on us as players and we need to take ownership of that. Coach Matta does a great job every game to prepare us, so Lenzelle Smith Jr. and I need to do a better job of getting the team ready to go."
Monte Ross, Delaware head coach
On playing a team like Ohio State
"It was a terrific basketball game tonight. For the most part, our guys stood toe-to-toe with what I would call the best team in the country. I hope that Ohio State goes on to win the rest of their games."
On his team's performance
"We did some things today that are uncharacteristic of us as a team, like being 7-for-15 at the free throw line. Overall, it was a terrific environment for college basketball today. These guys [Ohio State] are obviously used to playing in an atmosphere like this, but our guys didn't shrink from the moment or the atmosphere."
