No. 10 Ohio State 79, Ohio 69
Nov. 12, 2013
Value City Arena – Columbus, Ohio
Attendance: 17,318

Thad Matta, Ohio State head coach
On adjusting to officiating
“We have to continue to adjust. We were not rotating at the level we needed to.”

On team’s play in the final five minutes
“Down the stretch we made some big plays, I was happy with the things we did right.”

On biggest take away from game
“Our biggest thing is going to be continuing to adjust defensively.”

On atmosphere of the crowd
“I thought it was a great environment tonight. Anytime you have two teams with a bit of a history that’s what you expect to have.”

Aaron Craft, senior guard
On the game tonight
“We really had to focus and make sure we executed on offense and defense. Towards the end of the game we couldn’t really take any plays off because each possession became that much more important.”

On Ohio State's defense
“We get in a little bit of trouble when we don’t help out each other on defense. When we don’t it is harder to get into transition, especially when they are putting up free throws. If we foul a lot it shows we are not playing Ohio State defense.”

Amir Williams, junior center
On developing his game
“I am playing with a lot more energy. I practiced a lot in the off-season and the game is becoming a lot easier for me. My rebounding has increased as well because I have put in the extra work necessary.”

Lenzelle Smith Jr., senior guard
On Ohio State’s second-half play
“I personally do not feel as though Ohio University did anything to stop our game.  We stopped trusting our system and doing the things that put points on the board for us. We struggled a little bit down the stretch and unfortunately we were not doing what we needed to do.”

 On overcoming late game challenges
“We have been in tight situations like this before. They had momentum and they thought they were going to win the game.  We didn’t panic because of the type of team we are.”

Jim Christian, Ohio head coach
On Ohio State as an opponent
“They got into the lane so many times, especially early in the game. It got a lot of our key guys in foul trouble. You have to be able to play people. This is why we play this game and the same reason why we played Northern Iowa and the same reason why Valparaiso is up next. We wanted to play three really good teams and see what do we have correct, what do we have to get better at and what do we have to learn. We learned some things about ourselves today, no question about it.”

On Ohio University’s performance in the early minutes
“I don’t think they were intimidated. I think we just got off to a poor start. In games like this, when you play a ranked team, you have to make shots early to build some confidence. One thing about our team is, even when we started out poor, I knew we would fight.”

Nick Kellogg, Ohio senior guard
On playing in Columbus
“It was nice to come back to Columbus and it was my first time playing here in a college game. I played in a few high school games, but I guess you could say this home in a sense.”

On his father, Clark Kellogg, rooting for him over his alma mater
“There was no trouble. I’m his son, so he’s going to root for me.”
