COLUMBUS, Ohio - Sophomores Deshaun Thomas and Lenzelle Smith Jr., neither of whom opened a game last season, and Aaron Craft joined two returning starters as the No. 3 Buckeyes defeated Walsh 95-49 in an exhibition on Sunday.
Despite losing seniors Jon Diebler, Dallas Lauderdale and David Lighty from the Big Ten championship team that went 34-3, the Buckeyes have William Buford, the lone senior, and sophomore Jared Sullinger, a unanimous pick as an Associated Press preseason All-American. Craft also played extensively in all 37 games but started just once.
Buford had 17 points, Sullinger 15 and Jordan Sibert added 15 off the bench. Sam Thompson topped the four freshmen who debuted with nine points in 17 minutes. Brad DuPont and Ryan Burrell had 13 points for Walsh.
