POSTGAME QUOTES
No. 6 Ohio State 78, Minnesota 68
Feb. 14, 2012
Williams Arena - Minneapolis, Minn.

Thad Matta, Ohio State head coach
On bringing in the bench players
“Those guys have practiced well. We told them to be ready to go tonight. I thought one of the big keys was Ralph Sampson [III] picking up a few fouls there early, and they elected to sit him for the first half. He’s a tremendous player. Like I said, I thought everybody came in and did a great job.”

On Buford’s play tonight
“It was good. He started off with the first seven. It was in the flow of the offense, and the shots were there, and he knocked them down. It just happened in the flow, and we wanted to get him going, don’t mistake me there, but it was good to see him knock down a couple shots."

On where practice after the loss to Michigan State got them
“I think we had a good workout Sunday night and even yesterday, and quite honestly a pretty good shoot-around today. Hopefully we’re learning what it takes to get ourselves ready and bounce back after a loss.”

On finishing the first half
“I’m going to be honest--I thought it was more of our defense. We started doing some things that quite honestly, I know this, in six practices we haven’t practiced. I’m not exactly sure what we were doing. It’ll be good to go back and take a look at the film so they can explain what they were doing. A couple underneath out-of-bounds plays, I’m not sure. The threes that we missed, I thought that they were good looks. I thought in the first half we had some really good shots at the basket.”

On his confidence throughout the game:
“I was never at ease until the horn sounded. They got a lot of guys that can really shoot the ball. The one kid came in – number 10 [Oto Osenieks] – he gave them a heck of a boost tonight. I’ve seen him on tape do some pretty good things, and he really put it all together tonight.”

Tubby Smith, Minnesota head coach
On the 20-0 run
“I was really disappointed, that was disturbing.. We had guys that felt the pressure and tried to score, I need to score, but no we need to score, we need to screen down, we need to make that pass, not me, I need to go score. That’s what happens when you see guys inside getting their shot blocked and taking it up when they should of passed it.. We needed better defense, we needed to rebound and get some stops.”
