COLUMBUS, Ohio – Down three, the Scarlet team came back to defeat the Gray team, 7-6, in the final game of the 2017 Scarlet and Gray World Series Saturday afternoon at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. The Scarlet squad, led by Blair Everhart, won the series, 4-1, over Matt Angle’s Gray team. The annual fall series concludes fall ball for the baseball Buckeyes.

WALK-OFF WIN
With runners on second and third, Dillon Dingler sent a deep fly ball to centerfield to push home Conner Pohl for the game-winning run. Pohl started the rally with a lead-off single before a dropped fly ball in left put both runners in scoring position.

GRAY GETS AHEAD EARLY
The Gray team got off to a 4-0 start behind Adam Niemeyer, who tossed four scoreless innings with three strikeouts on the mound. The Gray bats knocked in three runs on five hits and one Scarlet error in the top of the second. Nate Romans led it off with a line drive single to right. A bunt single by Jacob Barnwell and throwing error put runners on second and third with nobody down. RBI singles by Matt Carpenter and Jake Ruby made it 2-0. A ground ball double play on the swing of Dominic Canzone pushed in the third Gray run. In the top of the third, Noah McGowan started off the at-bat with a solo home run over the wall in right.

Scarlet got back within striking distance in the bottom of the fifth when Scottie Seymour drove in two runs on a two-run single. Malik Jones then roped a single to cut the Scarlet lead to two runs. However, in the top of the sixth, McGowan blasted a deep fly ball to center field to push Canzone around on a sac fly to make it a three-run game, 6-3.

SCARLET TIES IT IN THE SIXTH
Down by three, the Scarlet hitters continued to battle and scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game heading into the final inning. Brady Cherry hit his third home run of the series to start the scoring. After a RBI ground out by Foppe, Ridge Winand lined a double to the gap in left center to even the tides, 6-6.
