COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ryan Leffel’s solo home run to left in the bottom of the sixth kept Scarlet alive with a 5-4 win in Game 3 of the Scarlet & Gray World Series Friday night at Bill Davis Stadium. Gray still holds a 2-1 series lead heading into Game 4 at 3 p.m. tomorrow at Bill Davis Stadium.

Gray took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Mike Carroll doubled to left-center to drive in Kirby Pellant, who had singled to lead off the inning. The visitors then used a single, a pair of walks and two fielder’s choices to push the lead to 3-0 in the third.

Scarlet was able to cut into the Gray lead, picking up its first hit on a solo home run to right by Aaron Gretz with two out in the bottom of the third to make it 3-1 Gray.

However, Gray got the run back in the top of the fourth when Phil Jaskot reached on a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a groundout, moved to third on an errant pickoff throw by Scarlet starter Jaron Long and scored on a sacrifice fly by Pellant.

Scarlet answered in the fifth with three runs on three hits, including a two-run single by David Corna and an RBI double to left-center by Brad Hutton to tie the game at 4 after five innings.

Leffel went 2-for-3 with two runs scored for Scarlet while Pellant finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored for Gray. Trace Dempsey picked up the win for Scarlet with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.
