Scarlet Blows Out Gray, 17-3, in Game 4

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Scarlet team exploded for 17 runs on 14 hits to win game four of the Scarlet & Gray World Series, 17-3, Friday night at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. Scarlet pitcher Connor Curlis had another strong fall outing, tossing five innings and allowed one run on five hits with five strikeouts in the win. For the first time in three years, the Scarlet team won the annual fall series, but game five will still be played tomorrow afternoon in Columbus. First pitch is at 2 p.m. Saturday and admission is free (parking: Pay-N-Display).

AT THE DISH
For Scarlet, Brady Cherry was 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBI and three runs scored, while Kobie Foppie was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, double and triple. Bo Coolen and Ridge Winand each drove in three runs on a pair hits. Conner Pohl had a two-hit night with three runs scored and Tyler Cowles scored three times too with a solo home run. For Gray, Dominic Canzone had a pair of extra-base hits and one RBI, while Andrew Fishel knocked two doubles with one RBI. Matt Carpenter had a three-hit night with a run scored and RBI.


 

 

SCARLET DOES RAKE
Led by coach Blair Everhart, the Scarlet team arrived for pregame warmups with "We Rake" shirts on, and they backed it up with an 11 spot in the top of the first inning. The Scarlet bats sprayed eight hits, while taking advantage of four Gray defensive errors in the inning. All 11 runs were unearned. Bo Coolen and Ridge Winand each had two-run singles. Brady Cherry knocked a RBI single before Coolen drove in his third run of the frame on a RBI single.

GRAY GETS ON THE BOARD
The Gray team got a run in the bottom of the first when Andrew Fishel drove a double off the wall to score Dominic Canzone, who led off the at-bat with a triple to dead center.

OTHER SCORING PLAYS
The Scarlet team added a run in the fourth and scored twice in the fifth inning, respectively. Winand knocked a 2-2- pitch to the gap in right center to score Foppe. In the fifth, Cherry launched a fly ball down the right field line for a RBI triple. He then scored on a wild pitch to make it 14-1. Foppe blasted a RBI triple to the gap in left center in the top of the sixth and scored on a sixth Gray error for a 16-1 game. Canzone ripped a triple in the bottom of the sixth to score the second Gray run. A single by Carpenter in the last inning made it a 17-3 contest.
