COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team opened the 2012-13 year with an open practice Tuesday evening at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. The Buckeyes will practice 24 more times before the Scarlet and Gray World Series begins Oct. 7.
“In these first few weeks we’re looking for the team to begin to gel and the pieces come together and work as one,” third-year head coach Greg Beals said. “We did not lose much from last season and have a bunch of new players in the program. That combination creates significant and much-needed depth in the program.”
The Buckeyes return 19 letterwinners from last season, including nine position players and eight pitchers that saw significant playing time. In addition, Ohio State welcomes 12 newcomers to the program that will get their first taste of college baseball this fall.
“We have a lot of young talent that will push the program through very competitive scrimmages and position battles this fall,” Beals added. “The newcomers are very talented and will learn from the veterans who have worked very hard to get us here today.”
