COLUMBUS, Ohio – Five members of the Ohio State baseball team have been named all-stars in their respective summer leagues after a strong first half of the season. Kirby Pellant was named a Texas Collegiate League All-Star while Ryan Cypret and Trace Dempsey earned the honor in the Prospect League, Brett McKinney garnered Great Lakes League All-Star laurels and Tim Wetzel was named a Valley League All-Star.
Some more summer highlights:
Kirby Pellant – Helped lead East Texas Pump Jacks to 24-7 record while hitting .312 with seven doubles, 13 runs scored and six stolen bases. Named Texas Collegiate League Player of the Week June 19.
Brett McKinney – Posted a 3.33 ERA while striking out a team-high 29 in 27.0 innings pitched over five starts for the Hamilton Joes.
Ryan Cypret – Batting .400 with four doubles, two home runs, 10 RBI and 10 runs scored for the Chillicothe Paints.
Trace Dempsey – Recorded a 2.55 ERA with four saves over 12 appearances. Has struck out 24 while allowing 10 hits over 17.2 innings pitched for Chillicothe.
Tim Wetzel – Batting .333 with nine doubles, 17 runs scored and four stolen bases for the Luray Wranglers.
Josh Dezse – Picked up two saves while striking out six and allowing two earned runs over 5.2 innings pitched. Also has two home runs and a double at the plate for the Bourne Braves in the Cape Cod Baseball League.
