COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State senior right-hander Brad Goldberg was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 10th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft Friday.
“It’s been a long journey to get here but I couldn’t be more grateful for my coaches, teammates, athletic department and the University as a whole,” Goldberg said. “I have a lot of people to thank but Ohio State gave me an opportunity and put me in a position to succeed and I couldn’t be happier right now.”
The third team All-Big Ten selection went 6-1 with a 2.99 ERA and 68 strikeouts in 81.1 innings pitched over 15 starts as a senior. Goldberg was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week twice in 2013, his only season on the mound for the Buckeyes after transferring from Coastal Carolina. He’s the highest draft pick for the Buckeyes since Alex Wimmers (1st round, 21st overall selection) and Dan Burkhart (10th round) were taken in the Top 10 rounds in 2010.
The MLB Draft concludes beginning with the rounds 11-40 at 1 p.m. Saturday.
