COLUMBUS, Ohio – Kirby Pellant, a senior on the Ohio State baseball team, has been named Big Ten Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. The award is the first for Pellant and the sixth Big Ten weekly award for a Buckeye this season.
Pellant went 6-for-9 with a double, a home run, seven RBI and two runs scored as the Buckeyes swept Purdue over the weekend. The senior shortstop also walked four times and had a pair of sacrifice bunts as the Buckeyes improved to 15-6 on the season.
Pellant’s four hits in the first game Saturday marked a career-high and his home run Friday was the first of his career. Friday’s game marked Pellant’s first game back in the lineup at shortstop after getting hit in the hand by a pitch at Stetson March 2.
Ohio State is slated to face Toledo at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium before traveling to Athens to take on Ohio at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
