COLUMBUS, Ohio – Travis Lakins, a right-handed pitcher on the Ohio State baseball team, has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. The award is the first for Lakins and the third Big Ten award for a Buckeye this season after Ryan Riga has twice been named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week.
Lakins pitched 3.2 scoreless innings at No. 7 Oregon State Tuesday, striking out a career-high five and allowing two hits before pitching 1.2 perfect frames, striking out a batter in the second game of a doubleheader against Siena Saturday evening.
The Buckeyes take on Akron at 5:05 p.m. Tuesday and Xavier at 5:05 p.m. Wednesday at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium.
