2011 (Freshman): Appeared in 10 games, making seven starts ... went 1-4 with a 6.68 ERA in 31.0 innings pitched ... struck out one in a scoreless inning against Northwestern (4/2) ... struck out five over 3.0 innings in start against Miami (4/6) ... allowed one earned over 4.0 innings against Akron to pick up first career win (4/13) ... gave up one earned while striking out three in 5.0 innings against Oklahoma State (5/11) ... named Academic All-Big Ten and an OSU Scholar-Athlete.
St. Paul's/Wake Forest: John attended Wake Forest as a freshman in 2009-10 ... after he grew four inches during his year at Wake Forest, he was pitching well in a showcase event in Indianapolis that was attended by Ohio State assistant coach Mike Stafford ... he visited Ohio State on his way home from Indiana and accepted Ohio State's invite to join the team ... played only one year of high school baseball at St. Paul's ... also lettered two years in basketball ... is majoring in political science and journalism.
Personal: John is the son of Vicki and John Kuchno, and he has one sister, Mary Beth.
