Gray scored three runs in the seventh to tie it and three more in the eighth to defeat Scarlet, 8-5, in Game 1 of the Scarlet & Gray World Series Friday evening at Bill Davis Stadium
A four-year starter at Robinson, Hannahs was named all-Apollo Conference his junior and senior seasons. His senior season, Hannahs batted .415 with three home runs. He also helped lead Robinson's basketball team to an Illinois state championship as a senior. He hit 18 of 20 free throws and scored 28 points to lead Robinson to the state 2A title game win over Peoria Manual, and he earned tournament MVP honors in the process. His father, Mitch, was a solid two-sport athlete as well. He earned all-Missouri Valley Conference baseball honors three years at Indiana State and then played in the Milwaukee Brewers' minor league system. Derek is the son of Mitch and Amy Hannahs, and he has two brothers, Kyle and Kaleb.
