2011 (Redshirt): Sat out the 2011 season after transferring from Duke.

Penn H.S./Duke: Mike, a three-year starter at Penn High School, was named first team All-Indiana and first team All-Northern Indiana Conference his junior and senior seasons ... he batted over .500 and combined for over 70 stolen bases his last two years at Penn ... was named MVP of the "South Bend Tribune" Dream Team ... also lettered three years in football and was selected to the Indiana Football Coaches Association's Top 50 ... Mike transferred to Ohio State in Summer 2010 after playing for Duke University as a freshman in 2009-10, starting 27 games ... he hit .258 with a couple of triples, 13 runs scored and nine runs batted in for the 29-27 Blue Devils.

Personal: Mike is the son of Pat and Monica Carroll, and he has two brothers, Jon and Nick.
