COLUMBUS - After their team finishing in third place out of 22 schools participating in the 2018 UCA Cheerleading National Championships, Carter Marsch and Maria Wisman attended a tryout and have been selected members for the 2018 United States Coed National Team. Carter a fourth-year junior and Maria, a sophomore, will represent the United States at the 2018 International Cheer Union (ICU) World Championships in April in Orlando, Florida. The ICU was established in 2004 and is the recognized world governing body of cheerleading. ICU comprises 105 member National Cheer Federations, 3.5 million athletes on all continents, hosts World Championships consistently - welcoming over 70 nations - many global continental and regional championships, and continues to grow as a unified voice for all those who are dedicated to the positive advancement of cheerleading throughout the world.
In 2016 the ICU received provisional recognition as recognized federation with the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The ICU hopes cheerleading will receive full recognition and will have teams from around the world competing at either the 2020 or 2024 Olympic games.
Carter is one of 19 males on the team and Maria is one of 14 females on the team made up of the top athletes from around the nation. Ohio State has been represented on the national team in the past with the following team members:
