Buckeyes Finish 12th at Cheerleading National Championship

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State cheerleaders finished 12th at the 2006 UCA College Nationals at Walt Disney World's Wide World of Sports Complex Sunday in Orlando, Fla. The University of Kentucky won the 2006 National Championship.

The Buckeye duo of Tina Meier and Ben Schreiber finished ninth in the partner stunt competition Saturday.

Ohio State finished sixth last season after finishing 15th at the 2004 nationals. The Buckeyes were seventh in 2003 and were sixth in both 2000 and 2002. Ohio State won the 1993 College Cheerleading National Championship and finished second in 2001.

Ohio State won the Northeast Region competition to qualify for the national competition for the 17th time in the last 19 years. By winning their region, the Buckeyes received an automatic bid to the national competition.

The national competition will be televised by ESPN and aired at a later date.
