Columbus, Ohio- The Ohio State rifle team returned to action this weekend at Lt. Hugh W. Wylie Range in Converse Hall on the Ohio State University campus. They matched up against the US Air Force Academy and the University of Akron on Friday and added No. 1 West Virginia to the mix on Saturday.
Air Force was the overall match winner on Friday with a score of 4625. Ohio State and Akron broke into two squads for the event. OSU Scarlet placed second with a score of 4583 and Akron Gold placed third with a score of 4559. OSU Grey (4521) and Akron Blue (4516) rounded out the team scoring.
In the smallbore competition Ohio State was led by senior Maxwell Snyderman with a score of 573. Amanda Luoma (570), Megan Polonsky (567), Greg Hagar (567), and Robert Mangaudis III (565) also put in solid performances.
In the air rifle competition Ohio State was led by junior Daniel Chapman who recorded a score of 580, followed closely by Hagar (578) and Polonsky (577).
On Saturday the team competed against the West Virginia Mountaineers, who are currently ranked first in the College Rifle Coaches Association Poll, as well as Air Force and Akron once again.
WVU was the overall match winner with a score of 4690, followed by Air Force (4619), OSU Scarlet (4594), Akron Gold (4571), OSU Grey (4531) and Akron Blue (4514). The score of 4594 was a season best for Ohio State.
Luoma led the way in smallbore with a score of 578, followed by Hagar (569), Remington Lyman (568) and Snyderman (565). Lyman, a freshman, posted a personal best score with his 568.
In the air rifle competition it was Snyderman and Hagar leading the way for Ohio State with a scores of 582 and 581 respectively. Chapman, Luoma and Mangaudis III all posted scores of 578.
The Ohio State rifle team now has a week off before returning to action at the Purdue Boilermaker Invitational and at Rose Hulman.
