No. 6 Buckeyes Host First Home Match of Season vs. No. 17 Akron

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 6 Ohio State rifle team welcomes the University of Akron to the Hugh W. Wylie Range this Sunday, Oct. 13. The match will be Ohio State’s first home contest of the season.

The Buckeyes are coming off of a record setting performance against top-ranked West Virginia and will be looking to continue their string of solid performances. Last week the Buckeyes were paced by sophomore Remington Lyman who fired an overall score of 1176. Freshman Deanna Binnie followed Lyman with an 1169 while senior Amanda Luoma (1154), freshman Chrissy Thomas (1149) and junior Greg Hagar (1124) rounded out team scoring for the Buckeyes.

Juniors Megan Polonsky and Jane Lankes will be seeing their first competition action of the season and freshmen Kendal Elder, Megan Hilbish and Anthony Cuozzo will be making the first starts of their Ohio State careers.

The Akron Zips, led by head coach Newt Engle in his 36th season, are coming off of a second place finish at the Mid-Atlantic Conference Open held at the Naval Academy last weekend.

In air rifle the Zips were led by a personal best score of 583 by sophomore Crystal Reynolds. Zachary Strohl and Elizabeth Berlin each fired 581 and Mathew Chezum fired a 578 to help Akron to a 2323 team score. In smallbore sophomore Alan Agnew led the way for Akron with a 572 followed by Strohl (566), Reynolds and Andrew Besch (563). Akron’s team score of 2264 placed second behind Navy at the event.

The first relay of the match will get underway at 10:30 a.m. with a second relay at 3:00 p.m. Scores from each relay can be watched live on ohiostatebuckeyes.com by using the following links:
