Ole Miss Invitational Results

COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Ohio State rifle team competed Sunday at the Ole Miss Invitational for the second straight year. Ohio State’s overall score of 4631 fell just three points shy of the team record set last season and capped a solid weekend for the Buckeyes.

Ohio State fired a team record 2344 in air rifle competition just a day after setting a team record score in smallbore. It was a solid team effort across the board with all four scoring team members firing above 585. Senior Amanda Luoma again led the way with a 587 followed closely by junior Greg Hagar (586), sophomore Remington Lyman (586) and freshman Chrissy Thomas (585). The three performances by Hagar, Lyman and Thomas were all personal bests.

“Overall it was a very successful weekend and a great start to the season for our team,” Ryan Tanoue, Ohio State head coach, said. “We saw several personal bests which were fantastic performances and that contributed to our solid team effort. To be able to fire a team record in smallbore on Saturday and follow that with a team record in air rifle on Sunday was a great way to begin our season.”

In smallbore Ohio State fired a 2287 led by a solid 581 from Lyman. Freshman Deanna Binnie (575), Luoma (566), Thomas (565) and Hagar (564) rounded out team scoring for the Buckeyes.

“There is certainly still a lot of work to be done but this past weekend has given our team a clear picture of the performance level we are capable of achieving,” Tanoue said. “With two matches under our belt we are extremely excited to prepare this week for our match this Saturday in Morgantown against defending National Champion West Virginia.”

The Buckeyes compete at West Virginia Saturday, Oct. 5.
