No. 9 Ohio State Hosts Four-Way Match Saturday
Jan. 8, 2014
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 9 Ohio State rifle team will host top-ranked Kentucky, UTEP and Rose Hulman Saturday, Jan. 11, in a four-way match at the Hugh W. Wylie Range.
Ohio State is coming off of the midseason winter break following a successful fall campaign where the team fired the three highest scores in program history. The Buckeyes are currently ranked ninth with an average of 4649.67 points.
“We are eager and excited to jump right back into competition this weekend,” Ryan Tanoue, head coach of the Buckeyes, said. “I think the winter break was good for the team both mentally and physically and I’m confident that we are rested and focused so we peak our performance in the second half of the season.”
Kentucky enters the weekend ranked No. 1 with an average of 4692 while UTEP (20th - 4519.67) and Rose Hulman (25th – 4452.33) are also ranked in the Top 25.
Ohio State is looking to continue to improve its season average and climb the national rankings as the season builds toward the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships in February and the NCAA Championships in March.
“To have our first competition of the spring season against a conference opponent and the No. 1 team in the country is certainly the way to get our New Year started,” Tanoue stated. “This weekend’s challenge is two-fold as we are working to improve our conference record as well as our season average. With the rankings so tight (teams 5-9 separated by only 10 points on average) every match is crucial and this weekend is a great opportunity for us to sharpen our focus and perform at a high level right out of the gate.”
The first relay of the match will get underway at 8:00 a.m., with a second relay at 12:30 p.m. Scores from each relay can be viewed live by using the following links:
