March 16, 2014
Luoma, one of only two competitors nationwide to qualify as an individual in both the smallbore and air rifle competitions, placed fifth in smallbore with a score of 587 (99-98-100-99-96-95) and 23rd in air rifle with a score of 585. She improved upon her performance last season in which she finished eighth overall in smallbore and 41st overall in air rifle.
Competing at her very first NCAA championships event, Binnie finished fourth overall in smallbore with a score of 584 (98-99-99-100-94-94). The fourth and fifth-place finishes for the Buckeyes in smallbore are the highest individual finishes in program history at the NCAA Championships.
"I am very proud of the stellar performances by our two ladies here at the championships,” head coach Ryan Tanoue said. “For us to have both of our athletes qualify for the individual finals and place in the Top 5 is a huge accomplishment for our program and it was fantastic to see their hard work payoff and showcased in the individual finals."
West Virginia won its 16th team title with a combined score of 4705.
