Ohio State Wins WIRC Championship

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Ohio State rifle team won the Western Intercollegiate Rifle Conference title Saturday in East Lansing. The Buckeyes won smallbore with a score of 2,293 and air rifle with a 1,541.

Junior Amanda Furrer, senior Nicholas Novello, senior Maxwell Snyderman, sophomore Amanda Luoma and freshman Gregory Hagar shot both events.

Furrer, who will compete in smallbore at the NCAA Championships in two weeks, took first place in smallbore with a score of 581 while Novello took second in smallbore at 575 and first in air rifle with a 393. Hagar placed second in air rifle with a 388 while senior Gina Cheliras took third in smallbore with a 573.

The team also won the Swanson Award for shooting the highest smallbore postal matches and the Ranta Award for shooting the highest air rifle postal matches over the 6 months of the season.
