COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State pistol team defeated Akron, Saturday, outpointing the Zips for a second time this season by a score of 5,374-4,177 at the Lt. Hugh W. Wylie Range.
The Buckeyes swept all three open events against the Zips, and were led by junior A.J. Tourigny in free pistol (30-shot) who took first place with a score of 262, sophomore Greyson McCaig who took first place in standard pistol with a score of 542 and junior Joe Totts who placed first in air pistol with a score of 554.
Behind Tourigny, McCaig and senior Gary Reburn rounded out the top three shooters in free pistol, with scores of 260 and 257, respectively.
Following McCaig in free pistol, Reburn and junior Kimberly Hullings finished second and third, respectively, with scores of 542 and 527.
Behind Totts, Tourigny shot a 553 to place second in air pistol. He was followed by McCaig, who placed third with a total score of 552.
The Buckeyes also swept both events in women's competition, led by Hullings who placed first in both sport and air pistol. Hullings tallied a 371 in sport pistol (40-shot) and a 358 in air pistol for an overall aggregate score of 729.
Hullings was followed by junior Mariah Skiles who placed second in sport pistol with a 359 and third in air pistol with a 341. Sophomore Rachael Mullaney took second in air pistol and third in sport pistol, with scores of 344 and 333, respectively.
The Buckeyes next return to action Dec. 1-2 at The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. Matches are set to begin at 8 a.m. both days.
