COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State pistol team defeated Akron Saturday afternoon, totaling an aggregate score of 6,349 to outpoint the Zips at the Robert A. Pinn Shooting Range.
The Buckeyes swept all three open aggregate events, scoring a 2,064 in free pistol, a 2,109 in standard pistol and a 2,176 in air pistol.
Seniors Jason Reineck and Gary Reburn paved the way for Ohio State in free pistol, each notching a 521 to tie for first place in the event. Junior Joe Totts posted a 513 to round out the top three scorers.
Totts placed first in both standard and air pistol, however, shooting a 562 and 550, respectively. Behind Totts, sophomore Greyson McCaig scored a 551 and junior A.J. Tourigny scored a 513 to place second and third.
Behind Totts in air pistol, Reineck earned a 546 and Tourigny notched a 541 to finish in second and third place, respectively.
In women's competition, sophomore Rachael Mullaney shot a 519 to place first in women's sport pistol, and a 308 to place third in women's air pistol, while junior Allie Troester scored a 323 to place second in women's air pistol.
Overall, Mullaney scored an 827 to place second in the two-gun aggregate while Troester scored a 754 to place third.
The Buckeyes have a brief break before returning to action as hosts of the NRA Air Pistol Sectionals March 1-2 at the Lt. Hugh W. Wylie Range. The match will start at 4 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday.
