COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State pistol team defeated Navy and VMI, Sunday, at the Lt. Hugh W. Wylie Range. The Buckeyes swept all three open events to tally an aggregate score of 6,355, defeating defending national champion Navy (6,281) and VMI (4,141).
Ohio State junior Joe Totts continued his winning streak in standard pistol with an overall score of 557. He has now won standard pistol in six of seven matches. Behind Totts, sophomore teammate Greyson McCaig scored a 540 to earn second place.
McCaig paved the way for the Buckeyes in air pistol, shooting a 560 to earn first place. Senior Blake Reburn earned second place with a 554 score.
In free pistol, Reburn solidified the Ohio State sweep of all events as his overall score of 525 was enough to take first place.
In all, the Buckeyes outshot Navy in free pistol (2,025-1,989), standard pistol (2,129-2,108) and air pistol (2,201-2,184).
Ohio State fell to the Lady Middies in women's competition by a score of 2,705-2,614. Junior Kimberly Hullings led the Buckeyes with a second place finish in women's sport pistol (551) and a third place finish in women's air pistol (357).
The Buckeyes return to action as hosts of the Winter Open Jan. 25-26 at the Lt. Hugh W. Wylie Range. The Citadel, the University of Akron and "open" community shooters will be in attendance at the match that starts at 4 p.m. Jan. 25 and 9 a.m. Jan. 26.
