Dmitri Romankov Hired as Assistant Coach

COLUMBUS, Ohio --Dmitri Romankov was named assistant coach of the Ohio State Fencing Team, head coach Vladimir Nazlymov announced this past week. Romankov brings many years of fencing experience both as a competitor and as a coach.

"I am very pleased to have Romankov as part of my coaching staff for the Varsity Fencing Team," Nazlymov said. "After trying to put many coaches in the position, I know that I have found the right person for the job. He comes from a family of top coaches that I have known for many years, and have always respected. I am already seeing positive results from the Student-Athletes he is training."

Most recently, Romankov was a volunteer assistant coach with Stanford University's Fencing Team. Prior to that, Romankov was the Junior National Team Coach in Taiwan for three years.

"I am very happy to become a part of this strong fencing program," Romankov said. "[Head coach] Nazlymov has built a strong fencing heritage at the Ohio State University and it is a prestige to be part of the coaching staff at one of the nation's strongest programs."

Romankov graduated as a specialty fencing coach from the Belarusian State University of Physical Culture and Sport. Additionally, Romankov was a member of the Belarusian National Fencing Team as both a competitor and a coach.

"Our team is ready to achieve strong accomplishments," Romankov said. "We have professional coaches with a lot of experience. Our athletes are at the top tier level in the world and they are ready to show their high results."

The Buckeyes continue competition with the January North American Cup in St. Louis, Mo. from Jan. 8-11.
