COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Buckeyes finished the second day of Elite Invitational Duals with a 5-2 record. The men faced three teams, going undefeated for the day, while the women faced four and finished 2-2. Ohio State’s combined overall record was 14-2.
Starting the day with another strong performance, Ohio State took down UNC 39-15. Both the men’s sabre and foil units went undefeated in the 24-12 victory. For the women, the epee unit dominated the round with a 7-2 victory. Emma von Dadelszen ended the round undefeated in her bouts for the unit.
The men took down 2017 National Champion Notre Dame in a hard-fought 15-12 victory. Frederik Koch won all of his bouts to help the men’s sabre unit earn its 6-3 victory. Oliver Shindler also finished the round unbeaten to help bring the men’s epee unit to a 7-2 victory.
Notre Dame ousted the women’s squad 20-7. Gabriela Cecchini went undefeated on the foil strips but despite a strong performance by the unit, the Buckeyes fell 4-5.
The women’s squad dropped to Northwestern 12-15. Sarah Merza finished undefeated, helping the sabre unit take the Buckeye’s sole victory over the Wildcats.
Both the men’s and women’s squads finished strong taking victories over Princeton. Each of the men’s units were victorious with Julien Baneux, Lewis Weiss, and Domenik Koch earning undefeated records for each weapon. The men finished 18-9 over the Tigers.
The women’s 14-13 victory over Princeton was highlighted by an exhilarating foil matchup. Gabriela Cecchini went undefeated again and Alexa Laskaris picked up her own victory. Natalia Falkowski earned the final touch of the matchup, winning her bout 5-3 to bring the Buckeyes over Princeton 5-4.
With a total of 105 victories in Sunday’s competition, the Buckeyes end the Elite Invitational Duals with a total of 290 victories over 9 teams. Both the men and women took seven squad victories over the course of the weekend.

The Buckeyes return to action Dec. 8-11 at the December Division I NAC in Portland, Ore.
