Buckeyes Gear Up For Garret Penn State Open

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio State fencing team will travel to University Park, Pa. for the Garret Penn State Open this weekend. The two-day competition will feature the women's squad on Saturday and finish with the men's squad on Sunday. Foil and epee competition will start at 8:30 a.m. and sabre competition will begin at 11:00 a.m. on both days.

Penn State University will be host to nine schools including Ohio State. The other schools participating are University of Pennsylvania, University of North Carolina, University of Notre Dame, Johns Hopkins, Harvard, Brown, Temple, and Yale.

The Buckeyes took home seven medals at last year's Garret Penn State Open. Four Buckeyes finished in first place in their weapon category -- Eleanor Harvey (women's foil), Eugenia Falqui (women's epee), Marc-Antoine Blais Belanger (men's epee), and Rhys Douglas (men's sabre). Ohio State fencers claimed the top three spots in men's epee, with Blais Belanger in first followed by Iñaki de Guzman in second and Julian Raul in third. The last medal was earned by Alanna Goldie for her third place finish in women's foil.

The Ohio State fencing team returns to action for the Elite Invitational in Philadelphia, Pa. on Nov. 21.
