Ohio State Sweeps OSU Duals, 8-0

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State Fencing Team continued to dominate home competition on Sunday, defeating all opponents at OSU Duals to extend the sweep-streak to 13 consecutive years. The men’s unit held three teams without a touch, combining for a total record of 193-23. The women’s unit totaled a 184-32 record, sending away all teams with a loss.

Nine freshmen made their Buckeye debuts in team competition. In men’s sabre, Henry Fisher (16-1), Frank Ditullio (12-2) and Domenik Koch (4-0) helped the unit to a 63-9 bout-record for the day. Men’s foilist Liam Smith went undefeated in his first time out, garnering 24 points for the unit. Leon Cao also saw action at OSU Duals, recording three points towards the unit’s 68-4 record. For the men’s epee unit, Csaba Fenyvesi and John Culpepper helped the squad to a 62-10 bout-record.

Rounding out the freshmen efforts for the day, women’s sabrist Sarah Merza led the unit with 24 points, ending the day undefeated. Natalia Falkowski garnered a record of 24-0 for the women’s epee squad. Alexa Laskaris and Erin Melber each contributed over 20 points to the women’s foil effort.


 

 

Junior foilists James Hu and Morgan Mzhen both added over 20 points to the team’s sweep.
Next up, the Buckeyes will travel to Philadelphia for the Elite Invitational on Nov. 5.
