COLUMBUS, Ohio - Coming off their runner-up finish at 2015 NCAA Championships, the Buckeyes are set to take on another challenging season for 2016. Head Coach Vladimir Nazlymov and the Ohio State fencing team will compete at three away events and will kick off the season by hosting their sole regular season event.
Ohio State will host a two-day competition beginning with the OSU Open on Oct. 15 and OSU Duals on Oct. 16. The OSU Open will feature individual competition, while OSU Duals is a team event with varsity and club fencing squads. The Buckeyes look to extend their sweep-streak to 13 consecutive years at OSU Duals.
The team will then head to Philadelphia for the Elite Invitational hosted by the University of Pennsylvania on Nov. 5. After the New Year, the Buckeyes will head to the Big Apple for St. John’s Duals on Jan. 21. The team finishes up regular season competition with Northwestern Duals on Feb. 4-5 in South Bend, Ind.
Following the regular season, Ohio State will host Midwest Conference Championships for the second consecutive year. Individual competition will take place on Feb. 25 and team competition will follow on Feb. 26. This season’s NCAA Regionals will take place on March 11 in Detroit, Mich.
This year’s NCAA Championships will be held from March 23-26 in Indianapolis, Ind. Eleanor Harvey and Maximilien Chastanet return to defend their NCAA titles in women’s and men’s foil, respectively. Marc-Antoine Blais Belanger, Lewis Weiss, Alanna Goldie and Eugenia Falqui also return to the team after finishing in the top four of their respective weapon categories.
