COLUMBUS, Ohio – Coming off a runner-up finish at NCAA Championships last season, the Buckeyes fencers have another season set in the books and are set to take off in just under two weeks. With three home events and one away, Head Coach Vladimir Nazlymov and the Ohio State fencing team open the season on home strips.
The Buckeyes will again host the OSU Open on Sept. 30 followed by OSU Duals on Oct. 1, serving as their season opening competition. The OSU Open will consist of individual competition and OSU Duals will be a team event with competition by varsity and club fencing teams.
Following the opening weekend, the Buckeyes will continue regular season competition French Field House with the Elite Invitational on Nov. 4 and 5. Ohio State will begin 2018 competition by traveling to South Bend, Ind. at the Northwestern Duals on Feb. 3 and 4. The men’s squad will be returning to the competition following an undefeated performance at last year’s event.
Returning home and wrapping up the regular season, the Buckeyes will host Midwest Conference Championships for the third consecutive year. With competition on Feb. 24 and 25, the team will be chasing its fifth consecutive MFC Championship. The women’s squad took the foil and sabre title with the men claiming all three weapons titles.
The 2018 NCAA Regionals will be in Cleveland, Ohio with the NCAA Championships held in State College, Pa. from March 22 to 25. Ohio State has finished second for two years running in the tournament, but it working to change that this year.
